Some of our go-to places when we want a cheap, easy, fast, and healthy meal are the many sandwich and salad restaurants throughout town.  One favorite is Holiday Ham on Union, which serves a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, and desserts.  Unlike other similar restaurants (McAlister's, Jason's Deli, Panera, etc), Holiday Ham is a local "chain" with only 5 locations - east Memphis, Germantown, Hacks Cross, midtown, Horn Lake.  They are open for breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner. Plus, the midtown and Horn Lake locations have drive-thrus.

At Holiday Ham you enter and place your order at the counter.  They have paper menus for you to browse, some items listed on the wall, as well as any specials of the day.  There is also a case with items to grab, like cans of soda, desserts, and sides.

After placing your order they give you a number, and you wait at the table or booth for them to bring you your food.  You get your own drinks and can sit in any area - the inside has one area with booths and low tables, another area with tall bar stool tables, and also a patio out front facing Union (which would probably be very loud and honestly not too appealing to many people).

On our most recent visit we opted for two ham related sandwiches - the basic hot ham and cheese which comes with lettuce, tomato, and spicy honey mustard, and the Ham What Am which is pretty similar but has bread and butter pickles and a different bread.

As you can see, the Ham What Am (bottom photos) is a much more substantial sandwich. One thing we really like about Holiday Ham is, well, the ham.  Unlike your typical thin sliced ham, they serve thick cut ham which makes the sandwich feel more hearty and fulfilling.

Each sandwich comes with a side, and you can choose from a variety of options.  We picked the pasta salad and fresh fruit.  The pasta salad was okay, nothing unique.  The fresh fruit was a good pairing.

Holiday Ham exclusively carries gourmet cakes made by local bakery Sugaree's.  The cakes are good.  We didn't try a piece at this meal, but we have in the past and they are moist and flavorful.  The best are the strawberry cake and the rainbow cake.

Another great option if you are looking for bulk items is their to-go case.  You can call ahead or just pick up what they have in stock.  This includes full cakes as well as many side items.   Look for the case in the front lobby at the midtown location.  Holiday Ham also caters if you are looking for even more bulk foods.

Holiday Ham is very family friendly, offering a small menu for kids.  There are even two nights a week when kids eat free!  Service is very fast, which is a big bonus for families with small children.  Overall, this is a great restaurant if you are looking for a quick and easy meal that will please the whole family.  Our meal came to $20, which is a tad pricey for sandwiches, but the cleanliness of the facility, the friendliness of the staff, and the speed of service makes up for it.
